The Indian national football team have achieved it's best ever FIFA ranking since February 1996, as they moved to 96th in the ranking list. The squad led by coach Stephen Constantine have been in impressive form over the past couple of years.
The India football team have won three of their last 15 matches and are unbeaten in their last eight matches. Much of the credit for the rise of Indian football has to go to coach Stephen Constantine who never shied away from making huge decisions.

Such has been his impact that India were ranked 171 when he took over as National Coach for the second time in February 2015. Constantine has transformed the unit, and India now have the fastest rate of growth in the football world, having jumped to 96th place in a very short period of time.
India’s ranking is especially significant this time around as they continue their dominance in the top 100 bracket, making this the third straight month in the top 100.
“It’s a giant leap of faith for Indian Football. Two years back, we were 173 and now we have reached our second best FIFA Ranking ever. The leap signifies the potential of Indian Football. Congratulations to the National Team boys, the Coach, the staff and all in AIFF", AIFF President Mr. Praful Patel said to All India Football Federation's official website.
India’s ranking allows them to be ahead of countries such as New Zealand, Canada, Togo, Iraq, etc, who have all played World Cups before. It certainly is a feather in the cap for everyone associated with the national team.
